CBS News announced Sunday that it has returned to Twitter after being cautious amid new CEO Elon Musk’s changes to the platform.
“After pausing for much of the weekend to assess the security concerns, CBS News and Stations is resuming its activity on Twitter as we continue to monitor the situation,” CBS tweeted Sunday. The tweet is now deleted.
CBS originally stated that Musk’s rapid changes to the platform have caused the news organization to want to implement additional precautionary actions to protect its legitimacy.
“In light of the uncertainty around Twitter and out of an abundance of caution, CBS News is pausing its activity on the social media site as it continues to monitor the platform,” CBS tweeted Friday.
Since Musk has taken over, he fired a majority of the company’s leadership, oversaw major layoffs that cut staff in half, added verification check marks for a subscription price, and reinstated Donald Trump’s suspended account, among other moves.
Musk insists that his true intent is to bring back real free speech, although some still question it.
“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” Musk said on Twitter in October when he completed the deal to own it.
